Dolphins Quick Hits

Over the past couple of days there has been a variety of news involving the Miami Dolphins. Most of it though, is bad news. Let’s get the bus rolling, and find out what went wrong, and exactly what happened.

Ronnie Brown Caught For DUI?

  • Over the weekend, Dolphins star running back Ronnie Brown was pulled over for changing lanes without a turn signal. Brown did not perform well in the field-sobriety test, which was one of the chief reasons for the officer arresting Brown. Brown is very upset over his arrest, and has hired a lawyer, but the Sun-Sentinel checked the jails phone records, and there was no record of a Ronnie Brown being arrested.

Rashad Jeanty Not Coming To Miami:

  • The linebacker, and special teams ace that made a visit with the Dolphins in the past week will be returning to the Cincinnatti Bengals, after receiving a one year tender from the Bengals, his former team. Jeanty has said that he was flattered by all of the teams that he held visits with, so I would expect that the Trifecta made him a solid offer.

Smiley On The Trade Block:

  • This weekend, while starting left guard Justin Smiley was on a hunting trip, Bill Parcells gave him a call, and told him not to report to the Dolphins off-season workouts starting this Monday. Smiley is considered by me, and many others to be the Fins second best lineman, and he is only due to make $2.9 million this year, so the Fins reasoning cannot be just about the money. What is the chief reason for Smiley being on the trade block, and the Seattle Seahawks are widely believed to be interested in Smiley, but do not have a 3rd round pick, which is what the Dolphins would be asking for in return for the solid left guard, is injury issues. Smiley has missed many games throughout his career due to injuries, and he has not played a full season with the Fins due to his injury issues. But this is what the Fins got themselves into when they first signed Smiley two years ago via free agency. Just because Parcells wants Smiley gone, does not mean that he will be gone. The Fins are asking for a 3rd round pick for Smiley, and if teams do not want to pay that, Smiley could be returning to the team, but at this point, it seems unlikely. Now the Dolphins have created one more hole for them to fill this off-season.
