Mock Draft Among Blogs: Pick 14

I admit it: I had something already written up about C.J. Spiller, only to see our divisional rivals from the Bay Area snag him first. Oh well, I can still fall back on my pleasant memories of this:

Spiller looks like a special talent, but the Seahawks actually have a more pressing need at left tackle, where it looks like the career of future Hall-of-Famer Walter Jones is all but officially over. Jones blew open holes for Shaun Alexander and Ricky Watters, and kept Matt Hasselbeck upright and throwing during the most glittering golden age in franchise history. Undoubtedly the best player to ever wear Seahawks blue, he also was the NFL’s best offensive lineman of the ’00s.

It will be impossible to find a player who will replicate Big Walt’s performance, but there is still a desperate need for a talented pass blocker who will be able to keep new QB Sam Bradford from getting absolutely David Carr’d over the first couple years of his career.

With the 14th pick in the 2010 Mock Draft Among Blogs, the Seattle Seahawks select:

In making this pick I’m shamelessly stealing from the great Rob Stanton of Seahawks Draft Blog, who wrote about Brown while projecting him for Seattle at #14:

“The Seahawks need to draft a left tackle. This isn’t too high for the under rated Brown, who is a perfect fit for the Alex Gibbs zone blocking scheme.”

Another blurb on Brown, from Colts blog Stampede Blue:

“Brown is a prototypical pass blocking left tackle.  His technique is near flawless and amazing for coming out of college.  He weighed in at over 300 pounds at the Combine, so his size is less of a question.  He made up for any size difference in college by using his technique to dominate the opponents.  He should be easy to coach with his work ethic and already great fundamentals.  If he can get stronger and become a better run blocker, he should be a superstar.”

Throw in the obvious connection to his college coach, Pete Carroll, and Charles Brown looks like the best fit for Seattle at #14.

The New York Giants, and its representative, Ultimate NYG, are on the clock.
