Mock Draft Among Blogs: Pick 11

The lasting image of the 2009 Denver Broncos is of rookie head coach and Canton, Ohio native, Josh McDaniels, fist pumping after his team’s 20-17 win over New England on Oct. 11.

Images aside, the Broncos started 6-0 before finishing 8-8 and missed the playoffs. Offensively, Denver was ranked 20th in the NFL and rookie running back Knowshon Moreno rushed for 947 yards.

With that being said, David East of Broncotalk.net took on the responsibility of making the Broncos pick.

With the 11th pick in the 2010 Mock Draft Among Blogs, the Denver Broncos select:

***Mike Iupati, G, Idaho***

I know what you’re thinking. Mike Iupati as the eleventh pick? What’s higher, this reach or the kid picking this? Well I assure you I am not on drugs. Before yesterday I would be tempted to select Dan Williams from Tennessee. Since Denver got all defensive this free agency, I doubt the first round will be spent on the defensive line. Jarvis Green, Justin Bannan, and Jamal Williams will most likely be starting. Expect these free agents to rotate with last year’s starters. Enough with the defensive line! Now Denver is left to focus to the other pressing matters.

Enter Mike Iupati. This kid is huge and he can really play. The Broncos could use a playmaker at inside linebacker, but Rolando McClain is off the board and his Chrohn’s disease could lead to him falling. So Denver is left to secure the offensive line. I could see Josh McDaniels and Brian Xanders trading down and picking up a guy like Iupati in the later in the first round. Many of you may be shaking your head thinking that this isn’t something McDaniels would do. I don’t think anyone thought McDaniels would take Knowshon Moreno with the twelfth over all. In my opinion McDaniels is squaring a huge part of the defense away to go on the offensive come late April. Where I could be (probably am) wrong is that McDaniels believes in taking offensive guards in late rounds. However if the front office sees a Logan Mankins in any potential guard this draft I think they’ll pull the trigger.

The Miami Dolphins, and its representative, Playoff Bound Sports, are on the clock.
