Free Agency Update (Part 2)

We got some good news and bad news today. I’m an optimistic person, so I like to start with the good.

1. Karlos Dansby Signs with the Phins!

This is great news for Miami fans. Dansby was probably the best FA Linebacker available, and we needed a linebacker. It looks like it’s gonna be a 5-year deal worth $44 million. Well done Trifecta with this move.

2. Dolphins Re-sign Chad Pennington

This is also pretty good news. Although he will almost surely be the backup to Chad Henne, I think he can be a good mentor to help Henne as he progresses. The deal is for 1 year, and $2. 5 million.

3. Ravens trade for Anquan Boldin

I’m a little disappointed here. I didn’t think he would come to Miami, but I really hoped he would. Looking at the positives, at least the Jets didn’t get him. The Ravens gave away a 3rd and 4th round pick. Boldin is getting $28 million over 4 years.

4. Giants sign Antrel Rolle

This is very disappointing. I really thought we we’re gonna sign Rolle. We offered him a weak contract earlier this week, but didn’t follow up with anything. The Giants are giving him $37 million over 5 years, the most ever for a safety.

5. More FA’s to Watch

Yesterday was busy, but I have a feeling the Phins will sign some more guys. We need a veteran receiver. Terrell Owens is available, but I can’t see him signing with Miami. Also, Kevin Walter is available, and I’d be thrilled to have him aboard. As for safeties, Ryan Clarke from Pittsburgh would be the most likely to sign. Darren Sharper is also a FA. Hell, you never know.
