Get to Know your New Defensive Coordinator

As you should all know, Mike Nolan, the recently fired Bronco’s D-Coordinator, and former 49ers Head Coach, was hired this week by your Miami Dolphins.

Nolan, the son of former NFL coach Dick Nolan, was born in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from the University of Oregon, where he was a safety. He went on to coach linebackers at Stanford, Rice, and LSU before going to the NFL.

In 1987, Nolan was hired as the Denver Bronco’s linebacker coach. In 1993, he got his first shot at Defensive Coordinator with the New York Giants. He went on to be a coordinator for the Redskins, Jets and Ravens. He also coached receivers while at Baltimore.

In 2005 he was hired as the Head Coach of the San Francisco 49ers in 2005. He coached them to 4 loosing seasons before being fired in week 7 of the 2008 season. He was later hired as the Broncos Defensive Coordinator, and then of course, the Dolphins.

While he coached the 49ers, his father, Dick, passed away. Nolan asked the leauge permission to wear a suit on the sidelines, in order to honer his dad. He was approved, and  Nolan, as well as Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio, sported Reebok suits for their home games.

So, now you know a little more about Nolan. I think he has a great defensive mind, and will be a tremendous asset to our young defense.
