Mike Nolan As New Dolphins DC? Update: Nolan Hired

As was first reported by John Clayton of ESPN and Adam Schefter, Mike Nolan has been fired by the Denver Broncos, and is now being interviewed for the vacant defensive coordinator job for the Dolphins.

Nolan has been the guy behind some great defenses this past decade, including the Baltimore Ravens earlier on in the decade. He has recently transformed Elvis Dumervil from a mediocre pass rusher, to a Pro-Bowl pass rushing fiend.

Some of Nolan’s greatest successes comes in the front seven of his defense. The Ravens struck fear into opposing quarterbacks, with Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Adalius Thomas, and Bart Scott lining up as the linebackers for the Ravens. Nolan also formed the Broncos into a defense to be feared as well.

The Dolphins front seven is one of their weaknesses as of now, and with the right players added in the off-season, Nolan can really improve the one area that single-handidly lost the Dolphins countless games all season long.

I cannot wait to see the wonders that Nolan can perform with young guys such as Cameron Wake and even Channing Crowder, who is not known for his pass rushing abilities, but may be able to transform his identity with a little help.

The Dolphins have wasted no time in interviewing Nolan, and are reported to be close to an agreement as we speak.

Update: Per Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, the Miami Dolphins and Mike Nolan have agreed to a deal that slates Nolan as the Dolphins new defensive coordinator.
