Dolphins Vs. Steelers Keys

The Dolphins have had a terrible December thus far. They went into the last month of the year knowing what they had to do to get into the playoffs. Win.

Of course, the Dolphins needed some other things to happen as well, but we all knew that if the Dolphins simply won some games, that they would propel themselves into the playoffs, and give themselves a fighters chance at the Super Bowl.

The Dolphins go into Week 17 going up against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Black and Gold feature all of the attributes that the Dolphins need to succeed, a pass rushing defense, a ballhawking safety (who will not be playing tomorrow) and a playmaking quarterback.

The difference between Chad Henne and Ben Roethlisberger is that Roethlisberger has put his team on his back in years past, and Henne has shown that while he does have potential, that he does need some weapons to lead his team to the promised land.

Balance The Attack:

The Dolphins have been one-dimensional as of late. This is something that definitely needs to change if they wish to win the game. If you give the Steelers 45 chances to rush your quarterback, they will get to you a god 5-7 times, and make your quarterback wish that they never played football to begin with.

The Dolphins simply need to get back to running the ball, and letting Henne throw 25-30 times, not 45-50.

Simply give the ball to Ricky, and the Dolphins will have a chance in this game. They cannot let Henne go through the game slinging the ball in the midst of the Steelers awesome pass rush. Let Ricky do his thing, and allow Henne enough attempts to win the game. But do not only give Ricky 10-15 carries, let’s talk more around 20-25.

Win The Battles At The Line Of Scrimmage:

Even if the Dolphins are going to try to run the ball more than pass, the Dolphins offensive line will still have to put up a good fight to help Ricky run, and create space for not only Ricky, but for the rest of the Dolphins backs as well.

What may be even more important is that the line protect quarterback Chad Henne in tomorrows game. If Henne is to throw the ball 40-50 times like the coaching staff has allowed him to in the games of the past, the line’s special duty of the week will be to keep Henne on his feet at all times, and give him time to get comfortable dropping back and passing early on in the game.

Nothing is more important than Henne’s confidence at this point, and ending the season on a high will give him a better shot at capitalizing on all of his weaknesses for next season. Henne gets flustered when he is under pressure, and starts to force things. Let’s keep him up for the last game of the season fellas, and allow Henne to win the game for us!

Final Score:

31-27 Dolphins
